UAE and Saudi aid pledge for Yemen welcomed by UN
The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator has welcomed the AED 3.7 billion pledge from the UAE and Saudi Arabia to support humanitarian action in Yemen.
Mark Lowcock announced that the nations have agreed ways to transfer the funding, of which AED 3.4 billion will be allocated towards Yemen’s aid response plan for 2018.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia have also pledged to raise another AED 1.8 billion from donors in the region, and stressed the need to use the funding on humanitarian grounds only.
Lokoc also highlighted that the pledge from the UAE and Saudi represents a third of the total amount of the UN’s Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen, and will help to reduce hunger and deliver basic health care.
