Turkish forces ‘encircle’ Kurdish-controlled centre of Afrin
The Turkish military have encircled the northern Syrian town of Afrin, armed forces said on Tuesday.
This marks a substantial advance in their offensive against Kurdish fighters, two months since they launched operation ‘Olive Branch’.
On Monday, the armed forces reportedly gained control of more than half the area and vowed to clear the Afrin town of militants.
Turkey sees the YPG as a terrorist group and an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
