#TheTicket Goes To #Bucharest
Michelle from Flight Centre UAE always brings us a Deal Of The Week. This is what she has to say about city of the moment, Bucharest…
Where and how far from here?
Bucharest, Romania! 5h 30m flight from Dubai
Colder or hotter than here?
It is a lot colder! Today the max temperature is 1 degree & a minimum of -7!
Who goes there?
Skiing, kayaking, beaches .. means lots to do for nature lovers!
Any famous people like it?
Nicholas Cage was spotted flying from Bucharest to Dubai on Flydubai
How long should you look to go for?
Long weekend – I think a lot of travellers in the UAE are looking for somewhere new and exciting to discover – they’ve done Georgia they’ve done Oman etc and now they’re looking for another city break to do on a long weekend.
Why we go there?
Car lovers will go for “the greatest driving road in the world” according to Top Gear – the Transfagarasan Road curves through the Fagaras mountains for 90km. Stunning landscape that you won’t know whether to keep your eyes on the road or the scenery!
Before WW2 Bucharest was nicknamed “Paris of the East” – unfortunately years of communist rule and a terrible earthquake means that much of the architecture that contributed to this name is no longer standing. What is left of the Old Town is absolutely stunning – you must visit the Cismigiu Gardens – the garden is so picturesque it looks like a water colour you would expect from Monet. The city has a replica of Arc De Triomphe
Food is definitely the rich Balkan style – the unofficial national dish is sarmale which is cabbage roles stuffed with spiced mince meat – you need to find a ‘trattoria’ style restaurant to make sure you are getting the homemade ones!
To get to the bottom of the Dracula myth! You can choose to have an option day tour – Transylvania Castles Tour
Where to stay when we do?
You’ll be staying at the Tempo Hotel – this is a 4 star option, however, if you’re looking for a luxury weekend break then we can upgrade to 5 star.
Is there a beaten path? And can we get off it?
Romania has some of the most beautiful nature experiences in the world – Caras Severin is home to the tunnel of love which is about 6 hours drive from the capital. The area was discovered by amateur photographers in 2013 and named after Ukraine’s similar tunnel.
Are there any events happening that would be a time to aim for?
Bucharest International Film Destival – April 2017
Bucharest Street Music Festival – June 2017
Anywhere to avoid?
Ferentari area of Bucharest – it’s just 5km away from the City Center (gypsie population)
Who do we fly with?
1. FZ 797 20APR DXBOTP HS1 0910 1325
2. FZ 798 24APR OTPDXB HS1 1415 2000
Do we need a visa?
Yes, Bucharest is part of the EU so you will need a Schengen visa – don’t worry, Flight Centre can help with that!
Any jabs req’d?
Yellow Fever – you’ll need your yellow fever book kept with your passport for entering the country. Typhoid & Hep A. Always consult your travel doctor.
