The Ticket focuses on all things travel and leisure; both locally and abroad. From budget basics to luxury getaways, Mark, Stef and Zahra will look at destinations, deals, explorations and hidden treasures, with practical advice on everything from medical issues to travelling with children.
There’s also a big focus on what’s happening here in the UAE, with plenty of opportunities to delve into the extensive events and food scene that the Emirates has to offer.
So whether at home or abroad, let Mark, Stef and Zahra be your travel guides. Tune in weekdays from 1pm until 4pm and they’ll do all the work for you, whether it’s your next dream destination abroad or just a good night out.
If you have any press releases or information on news, events, activities or attractions related to travel, tourism, leisure or hospitality, please get in touch with Mark Lloyd at firstname.lastname@example.org or Stef Burgon at email@example.com.
With a mad love of travelling and an even keener love of talking, The Ticket was the perfect move for Stef. After 9 years on Dubai’s longest running breakfast slot, The Catboy & Geordiebird Breakfast Show, she’s landed her dream job. Whilst at 92, Stef interviewed Chris Martin, Liam Gallagher, John Travolta, Simon Le Bon and even managed to trick Gary Barlow into following her on Twitter!
An enthusiastic researcher from the age of 6, she mapped the paths her bike could take in the forest between home and school, kept notebooks with the registration plates of cars parked in her street, and knew every possible short cut on her paper round. Her plan is to turn her love of detail into easy and inspiring getaways for Dubai Eye’s listeners, whether on a budget or with notes to burn.
When not on air you can find Stef sand-boarding in the dunes, hanging out watching TV with her cat Frank or eating out at restaurants in old Dubai, that she firmly believes she discovered.
A radio veteran, Mark Lloyd has been busy entertaining the UAE and building his burgeoning fan-base since joining Dubai 92 back in 1991. A broadcasting all-rounder, Mark has since clocked up many impressive firsts including interviews with some of the best known faces in show business.
A friend to the stars, Mark started life as a professional musician and ranks interviews with Luther Vandross and Cliff Richard as highlights. However, it would seem that Mark was destined for a career that combined his other love – travel, prompted by an early musical gig working on a cruise-liner. In the years that have followed, Mark has commandeered the airwaves with live shows from Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and the Philippines, with recent sojourns in the Seychelles, Japan and Las Vegas.
An outdoor soul, Mark is perfectly placed in the UAE where he spends time enjoying the many parks and recreational facilities, as well as combining a love of his family. Mark is happiest watching a sunset from the beach.
Zahra Soar is a writer, producer and presenter specialising in travel, music and entertainment with over a decade of experience in radio.
Prior to The Ticket, Zahra launched her career as a producer and presenter on Dubai 92, but perhaps became best known for her weekly Open Mic programme on Dubai Eye, which broadcast live sets by local musicians every Saturday night. Most recently, she co-hosted The Word with Jason Lumber on Dubai Eye for two years and moderated panels on education, fashion, technology and film.
Born and bred in Dubai, Zahra is THE person to talk to if you need a gig, restaurant or activity recommendation in the UAE. A roller derby fanatic who can’t sit still, she left home to tour with a band, spent 18 months on a sojourn around India, has scoured New Orleans to find the best etouffée and once accidentally attended a pirate’s wedding in the Red Sea. A keen sportswoman, animal lover and musician, she continues to promote local music in her free time and recently founded the Middle East’s first non-profit Rock Camp for Girls.
