A British model said that women who take time off work for sick children are using it as an excuse to get out of doing their jobs. Kelly Brook has upset a lot of fans and while she has no children of her own but she said she observed this behaviour among her close work friends. Fans suggested she had “no idea” of the demands of being a working parent. A report in the UK last year said that two in five young parents who ask for flexible work arrangements are being "penalised" with fewer hours, worse shifts and even losing their job. 12 June 2018: Will having to pay for plastic bags encourage you to bring your own reusable bags? Supermarket brand Waitrose will charge customers 25 fils for single-use plastic bags that they supply. This is part of a 12 week trial at 5 Abu Dhabi stores, in a bid to encourage residents to think about the plastic waste they generate and cut down the use. The chain has confirmed that customers can use reusable bags from any brand or supermarket. Meanwhile, Spinneys supermarket have said they could also begin charging for plastic bags, depending on the success of the Waitrose trial. We speak to Tatiana Antonelli, CEO and founder of Goumbook.

12 June 2018: Would you let your children sit in economy while you fly first class? A British TV presenter divided opinion when she said she makes her two sons travel in economy while she and her husband fly business. Kirstie Allsopp says this is to teach her 12 and 10 year olds the value of money and hard work. She did add that when her children were younger, they would sit together, and that it is only now that they are old enough to sit alone that they do. 07 June 2018: Are you proud of your nationality or do you find yourself apologising for it? We’re all human beings and our nationalities are simply an accident of birth. A recent survey in the UK showed that young people are far less likely to feel proud to be English than older generations. Eight out of 10 people in England identify strongly as English but pride varies by age. YouGov surveyed 20,081 people and found 72% of over-65s are proud to be English, compared with 45% of 18-24s. In the modern age, some languages have become symbols for independence movements, such as the Basque language in Spain. A survey in the US showed that 83% of Republicans say that being able to speak English is very important to being truly American, 22% points higher than Democrats.
