Syrian-Kurds claim training deal agreed with Russia

21 March 2017
Russia is reportedly setting up a military base in northern Syria that will be used to train Syrian-Kurdish YPG fighters.

A statement from the group confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Moscow.

However, Russia has denied the claim, and said it has no plans to develop new bases in the country.

Its Defence Ministry did confirm that it’s moved troops to a base in the area, but says that it will serve as a ‘reconciliation centre’ for ceasefires.
