Russia beat Saudi in World Cup opener

World Cup hosts Russia got their campaign off to a winning start with a 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia in the opening match.

Yuri Gazinskiy headed home the first goal of the tournament after just 12 minutes, with Denis Cheryshev doubling their lead just before half-time.

Artem Dzyuba added a third with 20 minutes remaining, before Cheryshev and Aleksandr Golovin both scored in stoppage time to wrap-up the win.

Egypt take on Uruguay in Group A’s other opening game at 16:00 (UAE-time) on Friday.
