Philippines investigating presence of Turkish group in country
The Philippine government revealed on Thursday that an investigation is underway to verify claims by the Turkish ambassador over the presence of terrorists in the Philippines.
It comes after Turkish Ambassador Esra Cankorur said the Fetullah Gulen Movement is active in the country through local schools since 1997.
She alleged that the movement has a cultural foundation which operates as a front for Turkish terrorists in the Philippines.
The government official said it will investigate any organizations that aid criminal activities and will work closely with other countries to combat terrorism.
The Turkish government blames the group, led by US-based cleric Gulen, of planning the 2016 July attempted coup to oust President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
