US ECONOMY EXPANDING

New data from the US Federal Reserve suggests the economy is expanding modestly.

The Fed’s Beige book, which surveys firms across the country, indicates that an improving housing market is counteracting flat consumer spending.

However, it found that hiring conditions were little changed.
