UAE CALLS FOR WORLD WITHOUT NUCLEAR WEAPONS

The UAE has reiterated its commitment to global nuclear disarmament – and warned of the political, economic and environmental risks of nuclear race.

Speaking at the 127th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Quebec, Canada, Ahmed Obaid Al Mansouri – a member of Federal National Council – noted the country’s firm commitment to harnessing nuclear energy for solely peaceful purposes.

The UAE MP called on the IPU to adopt a global initiative 'A World Without Nuclear Weapons' – under which all countries, without exception, would commit themselves to a systematic reduction of nuclear arsenal.

Al Mansouri noted it would allow huge funds spent on such programmes to be channelled into development projects, and thereby better serve societies around the world.

Emirates has been awarded the highly coveted 'World's Best Airline' award. Company officials were presented the prize by Skytrax at the Paris Airshow.
The Al Sufouh Tram project is on track to open in November next year. The RTA says 62% of the construction work has been completed.
The UAE and Australia have signed an agreement to help them both combat human trafficking.
