UAE calls for Middle East free of nuclear weapons

The UAE is calling on all countries in the region to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and make the Middle East an atomic weapons free zone.

The country has also reiterated it's commitment to working with the International Atomic Energy Agency to enhance nuclear safety on a global level.

The announcements were made at the 56th session of the IAEA General Conference.

Also highlighted was the Emirates’ progress in developing it's civilian nuclear program, which is expected to begin operating in roughly five years.
