President Obama travels to New Jersey later to view the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy and to comfort people.
48 people are known to have died and millions are without power.
15 thousand flights into the region have been cancelled and public transportation in New York and Washington DC is at a standstill.
The president's even received praise from the Republican governor of New
Jersey - Chris Christie - for his management of the disaster.
Mr Obama's thanked the emergency services and community spirit.
