SAUDI SETS UP NEW 'WORKER SWAP' SYSTEM

Saudi Arabia is setting up a new ‘worker swap’ system to try and stop the black market trade of labour visas.

The Worker Lending Project will allow sponsors to temporarily ‘lend’ workers under their sponsorship to each other as needed.

Under Saudi law, employees have previously only been able to work for their official sponsors.

But Saudi daily Arab News reports that as much as 30% of job visas end up being illegally traded on the black market.
