PAKISTAN THANKS UAE FOR SUPPORT IN SHOT SCHOOLGIRL’S RECOVERY
 
Pakistan has extended its thanks to the UAE, for its support in the recovery of a schoolgirl activist who was shot by the Taliban last month.
 
14-year-old Malala Yousafzai was attacked for advocating education for girls.
 
In a speech yesterday, Pakistan's Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik, thanked the Emirates for its part in saving the teen’s life. 
 
Upon news of the attack, the UAE sent a medical team of six doctors on a private aircraft to Pakistan, to assess Malala’s injuries.
 
The team then decided to transfer her to the UK for treatment – where she is said to be making a good recovery.
 
The Minister made his statement as he received Malala's father, who is set to fly to Britain this weekend to visit his daughter in hospital. 
 

The UAE capital's economy grew 7.7% year on year in 2012. The Statistics Centre, Abu Dhabi attributes it to huge financial surpluses, strong growth in non-oil sectors and high oil prices.
Speeding taxi drivers in Dubai are set to face further controls. The RTA has installed a new system on cabs called AMAN which is a self powered sensor that monitors the vehicles.
Tens of thousands of people across the globe today are marking 'World Refugee Day', in recognition of the situation of refugees worldwide.
