NEW STATS SHOW MARKED IMPROVEMENTS IN ABU DHABI HEALTH SECTOR

Mortality rates in the capital have dropped from 4.5 per 1,000 people, to 1.4 over the past 35 years.

The number of hospitals grew from two to 35 during the same period, while the number of doctors grew from 616 to 4,900.

These positive results come from figures released by the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi, charting the progress of the emirate’s health sector between 1975 and 2011.

The report noted that Abu Dhabi had seen major development in the health arena, with considerable growth in both public and private sectors.

Such efforts have seen the number of hospital beds increased from 616 to 3,659.

It also cited a rise in the number of clinics and pharmacies across the emirate, with residents experiencing better health and raised life expectancy at birth.
