MURDOCH THREATENED JOHN MAJOR OVER EUROPE

Former British Prime Minister Sir John Major's told the Leveson Inquiry into press standards that Rupert Murdoch asked him to change policy on Europe.

He says the tycoon warned his newspapers wouldn't support his Conservative government otherwise.

Apparently the conversation took place just months before his party lost the 1997 general election.
