MOBILE PHONES TO BE USED TO PAY RTA FARES

Commuters on Dubai’s public transport network will soon be able to use their mobile phones to pay fares.

Reports suggest the new system is expected to be introduced in January next year.

Passengers with compatible smart phones will be able to access the Dubai Metro, buses and water taxis by swiping their devices over sensors.

The technology is the first of its kind in the Middle East and will be on display at the RTA’s stand at Gitex today.
