India ramps up national literacy programme
Nine states in India are to get more funds to improve their literacy rates.
The recipients include Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal that have literacy levels less than the national average.
The proposal has to be vetted by the National Development Council before coming into effect.
The average literacy level in India, as per the 2011 census, stands at 74.04%.
