HUNDREDS OF GLOBAL AIRLINES LAND IN THE CAPITAL

UAE airports will be hoping to increase their global business as hundreds of the world’s international carriers meet in Abu Dhabi to discuss world air routes.

The 18th World Route Development Forum lands in the capital next month and will see more than 450 airline planners representing 250 airlines attend.

23 of the world’s top carriers are registered to attend, including the likes of British Airways, United Airlines and American Airlines.

Experts say this is also the best opportunity for airports wishing to do business with the Middle East airline market, with big delegations Etihad, Emirates, Qatar Airways registered with large contingents.

The UAE capital's economy grew 7.7% year on year in 2012. The Statistics Centre, Abu Dhabi attributes it to huge financial surpluses, strong growth in non-oil sectors and high oil prices.
Speeding taxi drivers in Dubai are set to face further controls. The RTA has installed a new system on cabs called AMAN which is a self powered sensor that monitors the vehicles.
Tens of thousands of people across the globe today are marking 'World Refugee Day', in recognition of the situation of refugees worldwide.
