FAMILIES HOMELESS AFTER BLAZE AT TECOM APARTMENT BLOCK

Investigations are continuing into the cause of a fire which swept through an apartment building in Dubai’s Tecom area leaving 7 families homeless.

Reports say the blaze started in a fourth-floor apartment of the Saif Belhasa Building yesterday morning.

The flames are said to have burned through 9 levels of the 13-storey building.

Teams of fire-fighters arrived promptly and brought the flames under control, approximately one hour after the fire broke out.

Reports suggest at least two people were treated for minor injuries at the scene, while five cars parked near the building were also apparently damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The UAE capital's economy grew 7.7% year on year in 2012. The Statistics Centre, Abu Dhabi attributes it to huge financial surpluses, strong growth in non-oil sectors and high oil prices.
Speeding taxi drivers in Dubai are set to face further controls. The RTA has installed a new system on cabs called AMAN which is a self powered sensor that monitors the vehicles.
Tens of thousands of people across the globe today are marking 'World Refugee Day', in recognition of the situation of refugees worldwide.
