DUBAI CUSTOMS CRACK-DOWN ON ANIMAL SMUGGLING

Dubai Customs and the International Fund for Animal Welfare have signed an agreement to crack down on the number of exotic animals being smuggled into the emirate.

The memorandum highlights various joint efforts to be undertaken, including training customs officials on how to handle passengers secretly importing endangered fauna and flora.

The move is part of a bigger campaign by Dubai Customs concerning endangered species – which are frequently brought into the emirate as pets.

It follows the launch last week of an exhibition at Mirdif City Center, displaying models of some of the endangered animals being smuggled into the country.
