So last night was the big one! Fitness test and the body scan.
Sadly I pulled a calf muscle earlier in the week (not Boot Camp) and I failed to complete the mile run, I increased on all the other tests, press ups, sit ups, squats and the plank... 3 mins 5 seconds!
My weight dropped 3 kilos in 4 weeks of being on the programme. But better still, 1.5kgs of that was body mass fat! That's the stuff that would kill me eventually, so very pleased.
I feel great and am going to continue with Boot Camp on a Monday and Wednesday evening with Corey and get a bunch together and do Cardio Tennis once a week at Meydan. I want to thank Dubai Eye 103.8 for allowing me to take part, Corey, Osman and his fab team for all the training and support, and Tennis 360 which I loved. Finally my daughters for making me lunch and dinner every night for the month, and ensuring I didn't stray.
Overall what a month! It hurt, I felt sick, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I hope the powers that be allow Dubai Sports World to continue next summer, it's an awesome facility.
All coming to an end shortly, DSW goes back to hosting exhibitions and conferences with is a sad shame. It's a brilliant place for all, no one can complain that Dubai hasn't got enough sporting venues especially in the Summer heat. By 8pm the place is alive with skateboarders, tennis players, basketball games, football and of course the Original Fitness base.
I've managed to keep up the diet of non processed foods, little dairy, and a lot of salad, veg and chicken. In fact although my daughter Madi is the boss and runs my food intake like a well run detox clinic I haven't felt the need for any of the other foods out there! I haven't weighed myself so tomorrow evening at 8pm we have our final assessment. Visceral fat was my problem, I should be less than 100% 5 weeks ago I was 155%... so fingers crossed.
Cardio Tennis with Tennis 360 has been a great workout and good for my tennis, boot camp is just a tough session which works everything. Tonight hopefully Spin Class... that hurts! Then tomorrow... feeling good... thanks 103.8!
Just for you guys reading this! I thought I best bring you up to date after the Eid Holiday. Diet all going well, following Corey's diet plans still, no fat or dairy, so far so good and enough energy to do the workouts.
Couple of classes I have been to for the first time, Combat Fitness was tough, a really nonstop workout, punching, kicking, running jumping! Yip, recommend that one. For a change I tried spinning last Thursday. Extraordinary business! That hurt! Calves like a young male horse! That burnt, the lactic acid really went to town. Lungs, legs, stomach all round work out. The instructor as in all cases was fun... and didn't take prisoners.
Cardio Tennis was Sunday evening, I can't recommend it enough, search Tennis 360, you will love it.
Not long to go now before I find out if the visceral fat has reduced. Stay tuned.
Thanks to 103.8 the experience has changed my lifestyle, the combination of the diet and the exercise has been amazing. Along with the Olympics it has been inspirational. Still 2 weeks to go and I intend to keep going to as many classes as possible. The test will be when we get the test at the end and see if the “bad fat” has been reduced from what was a dangerous level. Thanks to Correy and his team, as well as the Cardio Tennis guys.
Volleyball on Tuesday, then arranged a football game on Wednesday with colleagues at DSW on astro turf, good workout. Showered put on fresh kit and did Boot Camp at 9pm. Cory was back! That was a tough, upper body workout. Press-ups and some imaginative exercises which nearly killed me! 28 of us put the yards in and were well "smashed". I've lost 1.5kg in 10 days. Thanks to my team (daughters!) I am eating salmon, chicken, salad... no dressings. The energy levels are still there which astounds me.
The BBC Horizon programme was another indicator that food is the key! Download it, or read the report. For anyone reading this I urge you to pop down to DSW and take a look around, speak to Corry and get a programme. DSW is open 24 hours! So no excuse. porridge and blueberries now!
I ache, but don't tell anyone!
Catch Chris on the Dubai Today show as he embarks on his fitness journey at Dubai Sports World.
Every day I send a report of what I ate and drank to Original Fitness. I thought I was doing pretty well, but they came back with a few home truths, basically no bread or pasta. I thought I needed those for energy but I get enough from the proper diet set for me. Who knew!
Boot camp last night: Corey wasn't there so Frankie was our instructor. Being a girl I thought it would be easier! Forget that, some people were late we had 30 press ups to start with! Frankie took us through a tough regime of sprints, squats, skipping, jogging for an hour and a quarter. Exhausting but fun, 28 people of all shapes sizes and age. Was a good work out!
Volleyball tonight!
25% body fat! Need to work harder.
Sunday night at 7pm I went to the Cardio Tennis. Thought this might be a gentle bit of exercise! Now I'm not a tennis player but always played it for fun, never ever have I ever hit a backhand with topspin! The lesson is a combination of tennis tips and a lot of movement. The instructor is great, giving instructions and tips as well as keeping the exercise going. Together with my Swedish partner we must have hit over 200 balls, Lobs, volleys, back hand and forehand! At the end of the hour I was exhausted, but also I'm sure that in the mix I managed to get a topspin back hand over the net! I cannot recommend this enough to anyone who wants to improve their game and get a good workout to boot! Tonight Boot Camp!
I do have help! My daughter Madi is fully on board and cooking all the right foods as recommended by Original Fitness Company, not only dinner but lunch also! We have the "not to eat" and "can eat" on the fridge, so grilled chicken and broccoli it is! As Corey says, 70% is what goes in, 30% exercise. So far it's working, not tired dizzy or listless so taking enough on board!
Thought I would try the Yogi Fitness! Sounded relaxing! Now I’m not the most flexible person, but wow I didn’t know my legs did that! I was sweating even though I was mostly sitting on the floor. Again a nice selection of people, the instructor was very good at explaining and did it with a smile which made you feel a whole lot better. I enjoyed it, didn’t think I would but I did.
No fatty food and loads of grilled chicken and broccoli for me!
Boot camp again. Mostly on the Astro turf which was good, Corey hasn’t mellowed! Selection of “doggies” with floor exercises along the way. Press ups, sit ups, Burpies and a few others thrown in. That really hurt. I had the electronic body scan, 25% body fat, scary so diet needs to change as well as more exercise.
Boot Camp
The fitness test hurt, I've not done press ups for years and it showed, Great spread of people of all ages, so a nice atmosphere.
Results:
Press Ups - 28
Run - 7 mins, 30 sec
Sit Ups - 40
Plank - 1 min 34 sec
Squats - 50
Next day I ached! But in a good way, it meant I pushed myself and that’s not what I was doing by myself.
