BUSINESS BAY CANAL TO CROSS SHEIKH ZAYED ROAD

Dubai’s Business Bay canal is to be extended by 12.8 kilometers from Sheikh Zayed Road all the way up to the Arabian Gulf.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has endorsed the extension which will cost AED 1.5 billion.

Roads will be modified and new bridges will be built to expand the water way which will cross Sheikh Zayed Road near the Al Safa Interchange.

It will then pass across Safa Park, Al Wasl Roundabout and Jumeirah 2 before connecting to the gulf.

In addition, an 800-metre-long bridge will be built on Shaikh Zayed Road which will be 8.5-metres high to ensure smooth sailing for marine transport.

The project is due for completion in 2015.
