AZARENKA AIMS TO SECURE NUMBER ONE RANKING

 

Victoria Azarenka is just one match away from ending the year as the world’s top-ranked female tennis player.

The Belarusian moved a step closer to accomplishing the feat after a hard-fought win over Germany’s Angelique Kerber at the WTA season-ending WTA Championships in Turkey on Wednesday.

The Belarusian managed saved two match points en route to the 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 victory.

Azarenka will next face Wimbledon and Olympic champion Serena Williams in the group match play.

Williams has already booked her place into the semi finals of the round robin event.
