AUNG SAN SUU KYI MEETS OBAMA, ACCEPTS CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL
The US has lifted sanctions on two of Myanmar's top leaders during a visit by the country's pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi to Washington.
Sanctions have been lifted on Myanmar's President Thein Sein and the parliamentary speaker Thura Shwe Mann.
Ms. Suu Kyi has been visiting the White House for a private meeting with President Barack Obama.
It followed an emotional ceremony on Capitol Hill in which lawmakers presented Suu Kyi with her Congressional Gold Medal.
She told members of the United States Congress that the award ceremony was one of the most moving experiences of her life, and worth the wait.
