AL SHAAB & AL DHAFRA GAIN PROMOTION

Five-time Pro-League champions Sharjah have been relegated for the first time in 22 years, after losing by just one point on goal difference in the play-offs.

With 14 teams competing in the UAE Pro-League this season, a play-off was held to find the extra two teams.

Abu Dhabi based Al Shaab and Al Dhafra gained promotion, whilst Ras-Al-Khaimah’s Emirates Club and Sharjah dropped down a league.

It was a dramatic finale to the play-offs, as the goal that sent Sharjah down was scored by al Shaab against Al Dhafra with just four minutes remaining.

The Pro-League’s season opener, the Super Cup takes place between Al Ain and Al Jazira tomorrow night, with the league beginning on Monday 23rd September.
