Newborns must be screened for neonatal genetic diseases, say experts

Health authorities in the UAE are urging mothers to get their newborn babies tested for neonatal genetic diseases.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention says the screening provides the opportunity to treat health issues before it impacts the mental or physical development of a child.

More than 40 genetic diseases are checked for, including Phenylketonuria, endocrine insufficiency and sickle cell anaemia.
