New animal welfare laws introduced in UAE

Abandoning your pet is now punishable by law in the UAE.

It’s one of nine new regulations that dictate the responsibilities of animal owners and pet shops in the country.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment say its part of efforts to develop a legal framework for animal protection that are in line with global standards.

As reported by ARN News on Wednesday, those in charge of animal welfare at Dubai’s abandoned pet shelters are calling on people not to give pets as Christmas gifts.
