Mumbai keep IPL playoff hopes alive with crucial win
Defending champions Mumbai Indians kept their playoff hopes alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following a three-run win over Kings XI Punjab.
Chasing a 187-run target at the Wankhede Stadium, Punjab looked on course for victory, but seamer Jasprit Bumrah took three crucial wickets to disrupt the chase.
Opener KL Rahul’s 60-ball 94 went in vain as he fell to Bumrah in the penultimate over.
West Indian Kieron Pollard was Mumbai’s top-scorer with 50 off 23 balls, while Australian seamer Andrew Tye impressed for the visitors with figures of 4-16.
The win sees Mumbai move into the fourth and final playoff spot in the eight-team league.
