MCG warned by ICC for ‘poor’ pitch

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has been handed an official warning by the International Cricket Council (ICC), for producing a ‘poor’ pitch for the fourth Ashes Test.

The drawn clash between Australia and England saw only 24 wickets fall over five days, and the track drew criticism from both the teams.

It was the only stalemate in a series dominated by the Aussies who regained the urn.

Under the new regulations introduced on January 4, a ground could lose the right to host international matches for two years if it accumulates demerit points.
