Kolkata edge closer to IPL playoffs

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) moved a step closer to the Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs after beating Rajasthan Royals by six wickets.

The hosts bowled out Rajasthan for 142 in 19 overs and then chased down the modest target with two overs to spare.

Kuldeep Yadav starred with an impressive four-wicket spell for KKR, while Chris Lynn was their top scorer with a 42-ball 45.

Opener Sunil Narine smashed 21 off just seven balls to get things started at the top, while skipper Dinesh Karthik was unbeaten on 41 off 31 deliveries.

Rajasthan’s Jos Buttler missed out on a record sixth consecutive T20 fifty, but ended up as his side’s top scorer with 39 off 22 balls.

The result sees Kolkata hold on to the third spot in the league table with 14 points from 13 matches, while the Royals, who are stuck on 12 points face a tough task ahead to make it to the play-offs.
