The ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi heads to a new home in the capital this year at the iconic Yas Island on March 3-4.
Abu Dhabi will once again find itself the focus of the triathlon world as it witnesses the first leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series and welcomes 130 of the world’s best triathletes, all eager to kick off their seasons in style.
Last year’s race saw Spain’s Mario Mola take the honours in the men’s division, with Great Britain’s Jodie Stimpson taking victory in the women’s race. Rio Olympic bronze medallist Henri Schoeman and double Olympian Richard Murray are already confirmed for 2017, with more big names to be announced in the coming weeks.
But it’s not just the elites who will line up across the start line for a contest that welcomes all. Over 3,500 amateur triathletes from 50 countries will take part in the age group races (individual and team), including Maxi distance, Olympic distance, and Sprint distance, not to mention race distances for the Tiny Triathletes aged five and above.
The season opener in the UAE’s capital has become one of the highlights of the sporting calendar since the inaugural event in 2015.
With a bigger race village housing panoramic viewing platforms and packed with entertainment, race merchandise, and refreshment options for the whole family, Yas Island is guaranteed to take an already world class event to the next level.
