The Grill Live from Barasti: Team Reebok, Barracuda Paddlers, R U Active & info on Sharjah’s Electric Run

The guests just kept on coming on The Grill this past Saturday as Tom Urquhart and the guys talked CrossFit, Dragon Boat racing, Netball and the Electric Run.

First up on the show was Team Reebok MENA, a mixed gender team from a range of sporting disciplines that will represent the brand at the region’s toughest sporting events.

The team includes: Emirati nationals Saood AlNoori and Bader Al Noori (CrossFit and circuit training); the UK’s George Roberts (training enthusiast); Emirati national Nuha Al Marri (CrossFit); German athlete Martin Ziegler (CrossFit and weightlifting); and Nabil Ibrahim, aRomanian/Lebanese national (professional CF-L1 Trainer and CrossFit).

It’s not just the UAE’s fittest who are making a splash on the local media scene. An all-woman team from the Dragon boat racing club Barracuda Paddlers will be representing the UAE at the IDBF Club Crew World Championships in Australia later this month.

The team will be flying down to Adelaide to take part in three races over the course of the Championships between March 30 – April 7.

Team manager Fiona Miles, team spokeswoman Melissa O’Brien and crew member Heidi May-Warren are among those who’ll be down under flying the flag for the Emirates.

Another sport that is continuing to flourish in the UAE is netball. Founder of R U Active, Suzanne Skelding, and coach Debbie Jones are credited with helping bring the sport to the masses in Dubai.

They joined the guys to talk about the various initiatives they are involved in as well as discussing the future for the sport throughout the emirates.

And finally, are you at a loose end this coming Friday? Then fear not because the Electric Run is coming back to the UAE this Friday. Sharjah is the host emirate for the world’s “premier nighttime 5km run.” So what’s it all about?

Join us every Saturday for The Grill, live from 4-7pm at our spiritual home of Barasti, where the game is always on.
