Former US marine identified as California bar gunman

A former US marine has been identified as the gunman who killed 12 people in a Californian bar.

Ian Long opened fire at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday night local time before later being found dead inside the venue, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities say the 28-year-old had been cleared by police mental health professionals earlier this year after they were called to his home in April following reports he was acting irrationally.

Investigators are now searching Long’s home and car for clues as to why he carried out the shooting.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people have gathered for a vigil to remember the victims of the attack.
