Former mobile phone industry executive charged with text fraud

A former mobile phone industry executive in the US has been sentenced to time in jail for defrauding customers by charging them millions of dollars for unsolicited text messages.

US District Judge Katherine Forrest condemned 36-year-old Fraser Thompson to five years in prison.

His charges include wire fraud, identity theft, conspiracy, and money laundering.

Thompson was found to be part of a scheme to sign up cellphone customers for paid text messaging services without their permission.
