Eye on Health on #DubaiToday

Today on Eye on Health Suzanne Radford marks World No Tobacco Day from 11am, with Dr. Rashid Nadeem, Intensivist and Pulmonologist at American Hospital Dubai and Vinayak Mahtani who was a chain smoker. He tried numerous times to quit but was unable to do so. He would go through 2 packs a day easily! He finally went for a hypnotherapy session. He took a cigarette along with him after his last session of hypnosis in case he had the urge to smoke. However he threw that away and has never touched a cigarette since then. It’s been almost 4 years now!

This year´s theme of the World No Tobacco Day by the WHO is plain packaging. The WHO and the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control are calling countries to get ready for plain (standardized) packaging of tobacco products. So no more branding as that reduces the attractiveness of tobacco products, restricts use of tobacco packaging as a form of tobacco advertising and promotion, limits misleading packaging and labelling, and increases the effectiveness of health warnings.
