Europa League: Arsenal and Chelsea progress on mixed night for Old Firm
Arsenal secured their place in the last-32 of the Europa League following a goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon.
The result at the Emirates Stadium leaves the Gunners top of Group E with two matches remaining and extends their unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions.
However, the night was soured by a serious injury to forward Danny Welbeck, who was stretchered off after landing awkwardly on his right ankle in the 25th minute.
Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea also sealed their progression from the group stage as Olivier Giroud got the only goal of the game in their trip to BATE Borisov.
Elsewhere, there were contrasting emotions for Scotland’s Old Firm, as Celtic beat RB Leipzig 2-1 and Rangers lost 4-3 at Spartak Moscow.
