Dubai to trial autonomous aerial taxi soon

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to begin trial runs of an aerial taxi in the fourth quarter of this year.

It’s signed an agreement with the German firm Volocopter, to launch the first such vehicle, capable of carrying two passengers.

The electric-powered Autonomous Air Taxi (AAT) will have 18 rotors to ensure safe cruising and landing.

Ahmad Bahrozian, CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Department, explains how long it could be before the flying taxis start carrying passengers.
