Dubai Customs recycles 18 million counterfeit items
Dubai Customs has helped brand owners recycle nearly 18 million counterfeit goods.
Authorities say this will help reduce the environmental footprint and raise awareness about the proper disposal of these products.
They had around 130 seizures of fake items in the first half of 2018, with an estimated value of over AED 35 million.
“Perhaps intellectual property rights-holders are those most likely to feel the true pinch of this rogue industry, but when one considers the big picture it becomes clear that everyone is liable to be affected by counterfeiting and piracy,” said Yousef Ozair Mubarak, Director of the Intellectual Property Department at Dubai Customs.
