Court increases jail-term for Dubai editor who killed wife
The Dubai Court of Appeal on Sunday increased the sentence handed to the former editor-at-large of Gulf News Francis Matthew, for the murder of his wife.
The court dismissed the appeal to reduce his sentence and handed him 15 years in prison instead.
Matthew was previously sentenced to 10 years in jail after he was convicted of “physical assault leading to death” in 2017.
Calling the verdict too harsh at the time, his lawyer Ali Al Shamsi had also asked the court to lift the deportation order on Matthew after the completion of his sentence.
The latest ruling can be appealed at the Court of Cassation.
