Boult fuels New Zealand's win over Pakistan

Pacer Trent Boult took a hat-trick as New Zealand beat Pakistan by 47 runs in their One-Day International series opener in Abu Dhabi.

Chasing 267 to win, the hosts were all out for 219 in 47.2 overs.

Veteran batsman Ross Taylor top-scored with 80, while wicketkeeper Tom Latham struck 68 for the Black Caps after they won the toss and elected to bat at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

In response, Pakistan crumbled to 85 for six, before Sarfraz Ahmed (64) and Imad Wasim (50) added 103 for the seventh wicket.

Boult (3-54) became the third New Zealander to record a hat trick in ODIs, dismissing Fakhar Zaman (1), Babar Azam (0) and Mohammad Hafeez (0) in the third over.

Shadab Khan (4-38) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (4-46) were the pick of the Pakistani bowlers.

The two teams will re-group in Abu Dhabi for the second ODI on Friday.
