Bangladeshi professor fighting deportation detained in Hawaii
A Bangladesh-born professor’s deportation to his home country on Tuesday was delayed after a judge granted him a temporary stay.
Syed Ahmed Jamal, a chemistry teacher based in Kansas, was taken off the flight during a layover in Hawaii and shifted to a Federal Detention Centre.
A father of three US citizen children, Jamal’s deportation has garnered national attention over US President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
The 55-year-old has lived in the US for 30 years, overstaying his second visa in 2011.
