Asian Cup: Australia's campaign back on track

Defending champions Australia defeated Palestine 3-0 in their AFC Asian Cup Group B match in Dubai on Friday.

The Socceroos struck two quickfire goals through Jamie Maclaren (18′) and Awer Mabil (20′) in the first-half, while Apostolos Giannou (90′) came off the bench to nod home the third.

The win takes Australia to second in the group, behind Jordan who have sealed a place in the knockout stage with a game to spare.

In the two other games scheduled for Friday, The Philippines will face China at Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium (5.30 pm) and Kyrgyzstan will take on South Korea at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain (8 pm).
