#AmIYourType A Motorbike Adventure Through Ladakh

zahra

Fancy stepping out of your comfort zone? There are few activities that offer speed, adventure, freedom and getting closer to nature than on the back of a motorbike.

Perhaps a trip traversing the iconic shorelines outside Melbourne, winding around Argentina’s notorious Ruta 40, or go cross-country on America’s Route 66.

Motorbike journeys certainly aren’t for everyone, but ANYONE can do them according to this group of intrepid Dubai residents. You don’t need to be a crazy Hell’s Angel, or a famous Hollywood actor like Ewan McGregor.

Culinary and travel blogger Ishita Saha, her family and friends tackled the dangerous roads at the slopes of the Himalayas for their summer holiday this year.

These Dubai residents claim they are just ordinary people who wanted to take an extraordinary adventure. The destination? Ladakh, “the land of high mountain passes”, which is in the northern most part of India, on the slopes of the Great Himalayas.

Ishita explains “we were a group of 17 people with 7 bikers, and 6 of them from Dubai. The youngest member of the group had been Lil Z who is 6 years old while the oldest had been 51 years and the others all in between – twenties, thirties and forties!”

The Ladakh region is known for its scenic beauty, breathtaking high-peaked mountains covered with snow, and glaciers that attract tourists, mountaineers, and trekkers alike. In the Himalayas daytime temperatures at low altitudes can be as high as 30° C whereas they can fall to below freezing levels at high altitudes & over high passes, specially in early mornings & during the nights.

This trip to Ladakh wasn’t an easy journey. 10 hour rides, altitude sickness, family squabbles, oxygen depletion, loss of appetite, bland food and dangerous roads in the world meant this was a challenge for everyone involved.

See the most-have list for Ishita’s family below!
