Abu Dhabi set for Special Olympics Regional Games
More than 1,000 athletes from over 30 countries are heading to Abu Dhabi for the MENA Special Olympics Regional Games.
At least 16 different sporting events are to be held at multiple venues across the capital.
A spectacular torch relay will take place on March 14 ahead of the opening ceremony on March 17, while athletes will officially begin competing from March 18.
This regional competition will serve as a major test event for the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi next year.
Tala Al Ramahi, Chief Strategy Officer for the Games’ local organising committee, told ARN how the event is helping empower people of determination.
Ramahi adds that the Regional Games will provide a platform for people with intellectual disabilities to interact with the UAE community, through its “Host Town Programme”.
