A call has gone out from one of the most high ranking tourism officials in the country to market the UAE as a whole and not separate Emirates.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority has called for greater cooperation between the emirates in promoting themselves as one destination.
There has always been a separate drive by each emirate to highlight their own unique qualities and emphasize its differentials. But the call from Abu Dhabi is now to unite and cross promote through the newly-formed Tourism and Antiquity Council for the UAE.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan says it would be logical to coordinate in the same way as the UK, Australia and the United States.
There are, he said, some specific marketing and promotional activities where there is a need to work together on the federal level.
As shown recently in several foreign press articles, many of those who have never visited the UAE do not even realize that Dubai and Abu Dhabi are part of the same country.
This council will be tasked with coordinating tourism marketing and promotional activities across all emirates as well as issues related to history, tradition and heritage.
